Google is not a wise old man.

One of the best things about running a blog is getting to see how people got to your site. Particularly amusing are some of the google searches that take people here. As you can imagine a great many people who get to us are looking for information on the third estate in prerevolutionary france. I love the idea that our ramblings might end up in some 15 year olds history homework.

Yet today all this was topped. Apparently somebody got to us after searching for the following: ‘in reality is a university education a right or a privilege?’

I absolutely love the idea that people out there are using google in this way. That instead than seeing it as an instrument for scouring the internet for information or commentary, they see google as some kind of wise old rabbi, to whom they might pose whatever ethical or politcal questions are troubling them.

Haha, yes – although to my mind that just betrays a lack of search engine skills. I mean, who asks google a natural language question anyway?

I’m interested to see that someone’s been googling “‘third estate’ jacob’s mum”. I do hope that wasn’t you Jacob!
