It's the "groups of people hanging around" as a social problem that I find most bizarre. Not even specifying young or drunk or disorderly (although they are probably meant to be taken as read); it appears we are now supposed to be afraid of ourselves.

'I’ve always wondered about the connection between alcohol and violence. I’m pretty sure the link is between twats and violence. Me and a lot of my friends drink and don’t get violent, I’m going to Glasto tomorrow, and we won’t get violent.

But some people I know who are twats sober, they end up violent when drunk.'

Yep I think that's really the crux of the matter. Enjoy glasto. My fellow third estater salman will be there. But he's so much of a fucking hippy he will be impossible to pick out of the crowd.

Interesting post, its always seemed a bit shameful drinking in public.

I think it's because it's associated with the young. There's nowhere young people can drink in this country, as they might on the continent, so they go to the streets (or fields and woods, depends how rural you were). Young people can't handle their drink and so street drinking gets a bad reputation.
