US to arm Middle East allies if Iran builds nuclear weapons

Hillary Clinton announced today that if Iran succeeds in developing nuclear weapons, America could look at arming its allies in the region to defend against the threat.

“We want Iran to calculate what I think is a fair assessment: that if the United States extends a defence umbrella over the region, if we do even more to develop the military capacity of those [allies] in the Gulf, it is unlikely that Iran will be any stronger or safer because they won’t be able to intimidate and dominate as they apparently believe they can once they have a nuclear weapon,” she said.

Because arming corrupt Middle Eastern dictatorships has always helped in the past, hasn’t it?

Did Clinton say anything about what sort of ‘arming’ this would be? Is there some kind of nuclear missile interception technology that I haven’t heard of that would only help them deal with nuclear threats and be of no other use?

If not it really makes me wonder if American governments have their minds surgically altered on taking office to give them a blind-spot when it comes to the sense of arming the enemy of their enemy.

Well there’s really only one kind of weapon that would actually make a nuclear armed state think twice about attacking someone…
