Anti-War Soldier Joe Glenton Jailed
I have just got back from a 40-strong demonstration outside Colchester Barracks at the trial of Joe Glenton, the soldier who spoke out against the war in Afghanistan and refused to return. Joe was sentenced to nine months in a military prison for going AWOL. This is clearly an attempt to send a message to soldiers that such things will not be tolerated. Joe apparently left the court with his fist raised in salute. This is only the beginning of the campaign. Pictures and reports to follow.

exactly right. it is a message to soliders that such things will not be tolerated. when you join the army, you are bound by its rules. one of those rules is that if you go absent without leave then youll be punished. its not rocket science. the guy went awol and now hes paying the consequences, it doesnt matter what his motivations are.
raste, if you disagree with what your ruling authority is doing and asking you to do then i think you have a right to protest without being locked up…
