Labour, the Trade Unions and an old Jewish joke

There’s an old Jewish joke about a couple of Jewish guys in 1930s Germany. One is reading the Jewish press and the other one is reading the Nazi papers. The man reading the Jewish Press turns to his friend and asks “why on earth are you reading the fascist papers?”. His friend tells him “Whenever I read the Jewish press I get really depressed by the stories of boycotts, pogroms and all the rest of it. On the other hand, when I pick up Der Sturmer I get to read about how we’re running the whole world.”

And that is why I love these Tory fantasies about a Labour government bending over backwards to please organsied labour. If only something had been done about all those thatcherite anti-union laws, and if only the irony were not so bitter.

Better Jewish joke from 1930s Germany.
A Jew is walking down the road and 2 SS officers are walking towards him.

As they pass the SS officers deliberately push the Jew to the ground. One of the SS officers screams at him: “Schweinhund!!”

The Jew stands up, dusts himself down, then holds out his hand to the SS officers, and says:
“Goldberg, pleased to meet you”
