Review: BBC election graphics

As the Third Estate’s resident art historian, I feel I should say a couple of words about the BBC graphics in the election so far. We’re seeing a strong swing towards Apple-themed visuals, including the oversized iPad and the shiny rounded icons. This is, however, balanced out by a Sims/Myst-style “bad-graphic”. However, in a shocking turn towards future technologies, there does seems to be the ability for Jeremy Vine to sometimes walk *behind* the virtual reality stair bannisters in the 3D Downing Street house.

In total, this shiny, perfected design ideologically mirrors the Conservative look this season: clean-cut, very smiley, but with a coldness that belies any life. Our artificial reality swingometres a good indication of the artificial reality politicians we’re voting in.

YES! We quickly nicknamed the Maitlis gadget The Giant Iphone. And took a swig of beer every time the buttons were a bit slow.
