Why I am smug about Fergie’s epic fail.
Sam Leith, writing in the evening standard might have had a point when he said that the real lobbying industry – selling access to people with real political power – matters far more than Fergie threatening to introduce somebody to the fatally dim Prince Andrew. Nonetheless I am deeply smug about Fergie’s situation due to something that stuck in my mind a few years back.
Fergie featured on one of those patronising “sort out the underclass” documentaries, spending time on a council estate and trying to get a family to improve their diet. Speaking about her experiences she said “”I could live in a council house andbelow the benefit line, of course. But I wouldn’t smoke and I’d make it nice inside and eat green vegetables because I was brought up on a farm.”
Not only was she suggesting, quite ridiculously, that not smoking is a legitimate life choice. She was also talking utter bollocks. Explaining to the fake businessman why she was pimping her husband out, she told him that her divorce settlement had left her with nothing. In fact, it pays her £15k a year for doing fuck all. Not riches, but a damn site more than those on benefits.

And now the fatally dim Fergie is going to appear on the Oprah Winfrey show, no doubt for a very large fee, to make her apology to the fatally dim US public who have supported her through fat and thin.
