The police are voluntary
Voluntarily deciding who’s to die
You throw two plastic bottles
And get thrown in the pig sty
But the pigs themselves get let off
Leaving a newspaper man to die

But if you’re going to give a bashing
To a newspaper man
Couldn’t it have been
Murdoch or Piers Morgan?
But the dice are always loaded
Like a Taser for the Man

The fees are going up, the ASBOs coming down
But who needs an ASBO
When society itself has been run down?
We’re all anti-social now
The Big Society has the crown

So sack the librarians
Fall short of burning books
Who cares for the unions
If the story’s got a hook?
The latest briefing paper’s so shiny
I’m sure the City will like the look

Well I’m no Yellow belly
So I’ve got the Coalition Blues
And I don’t fucking care
That the Abbot’s going to lose
The left side of the congregation
To some goodie-two-shoes

So sell off the schools
And everything you stood for
Tune into the news
And be happy that the terrain of war
Doesn’t look half so bare
As what’s left of democracy in Parliament Square

So get on your bike from Barclays
And go and find a job
Or if you mind the darkies
Perhaps find an angry mob
The EDL have always got
Space for a few more in the ranks
Just don’t expect them
To do anything about the government, the recession or the banks.

But what would you expect
From a big society
That continues an invasion
To create democracy?
Did you think there’d be no consequences
Did you think we’d all just go peacefully?

So raise the red flag high
But don’t get your hopes up equally
The Big Society’s here
And it’s embracing you and me
Unless we fight it in our minds,
With strength and unity.
