Stand up for Judas
One christmas song for all revolutionaries is Leon Rosselson’s fantastic Stand Up For Judas.
…And Jesus knew the answer
said give to Caesar what is Caesar’s
Said love your enemy
But judas was a zealot and he wanted to be free
resist, he said, the Roman tyranny
The praise for Judas in this song depends, it must be said, on the contentious claim that he was a member of the Sicarii, a group of Judean assasins dedicated to driving the Romans out.
The vision of christ that was passed down through the ages – of the man who said give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s – was arguably influenced by the Roman authorities who adopted his religion.
Personally, I am confident that the mob made the right call in demanding the freedom of the rebel Barrabas – over that of Jesus. The meek will not inherit the earth unless they fight for it!

isn’t this for Easter?
The Easter goes largely unnoticed in this secularized era, so it’s Christmas when you wish to bash Jesus H. Christ.
And it’s a decent song. Thanks for posting this, Reuben!
