Kony 2012: Fuck This Shit

This post was written by Jacob on March 7, 2012

I watched the Kony video that’s been doing the rounds on facebook all day. I laughed  briefly at the idea that capitalism offers the technologies for solving peoples suffering, and then felt miserable. Of course capitalism has brought more suffering, more civil war, more starvation, more illness from dreadful working and living conditions, generally more horror to this earth than ever before.  If you want to help people who suffer try being antagonistic and confrontational towards all those systems that make them suffer. It might not feel good, and it might be hard work, but it’s a lot more useful than any of the following:

(a) funding well dodgy charities.

(b) funding any of those charities that don’t address deeper structural reasons for suffering.

(c) funding military intervention by armies known for raping and looting.

(d) making yourself feel better, or self-satisfied.

(e) ignoring politics, because, oh, in Africa that could never come into it.

(f) generally reasserting your dickheaded imperialist mindset.

(g) making your skin shinier so as to appear more authentically plasticy on film.

(h) believing that all suffering is a result of “bad people”.

(i) being so fucking ignorant that it takes a completely idiotic viral youtube film to make you realise, even fucking minimally, that people suffer a lot in the world.

If you agree, please repost.

It shows if we stick together we have a voice and we can make changes!

LIL’PULLMAN isn’t right. This Kony bullshit is just a massive publicity media stunt. Celebrities bringing the world together to highlight suffering? Yeah because we all know that works (Bandaid was how many years a go and look at fuck all change that has happened). Why has no other country stepping in to squash said Kony I wonder. Because everyone else realises is the government in Africa that is corrupt and allows this to happen. Nothing will ever change until that changes. This is not America’s War, they have no right to send troops there. Kids spitting out this video left, right, and centre will grab their attention for a few hours until something else goes viral. This blog is right, the whole thing is ridiculous and nothing more than troll bait.

I agree wholeheartedly. This afternoon when I logged into my youtube, these makeup gurus had this crap plastered on my yt homepage. Watched one, then immediately I felt like this was stupid. Then all the comments were mostly spam saying Kony 2012. In my opinion, this will be a fad, hope it ends soon.

Look, I have been searching for ages now on who to believe :/ I have searched the internet and have seen many arguments. SO far my opinion right now is that it shouldnt be about KONY 2012, but it should be about Joseph Kony. I mean,I wish I could take him down but instead I have to sit here and worry. Yes, Kony is indeed a very bad man and deserves nothing but a bullet to the head. But the military said they are going ot solve it WITH violence. Kony’s army is full of children, so in order to use violence to get to Kony, we have to kill MANY children. When the KONY 2012 promised me that there will be no more deaths for children in Africa. Follow your own beliefs, but I advise looking for the truth.

Trying to save the world through hipster video tactics. Give me a break.

Thank god someone else feels the same way. It’s ridiculous nobody takes time to research invisible children and this viral thing that they are trying to blast everywhere. They actually want our American troops to go to Uganda which I find appalling it hasn’t worked so well before in other countries and it’s not our war to fight and the last thing we need is more of our lives lost because of something the corrupt Ugandan government allows themselves. Also there is the possibility that Kony might already be dead.

You bunch of selfish pig headed arse hole’s why can u not see the good in what this man and his group are going to achieve!! Selfish bastards going on there problems here to “here” to fix! Well there’s problems here in Britain that need fixing!! But in our country’s we have people we can turn to for help! And strong powerfull governments working hard to fix our problems!! They have no one! This man who started the group met one young boy and saw the pain and upset and wanted to change his life I don’t know a single person that wouldn’t do the same but than again I’m British!!!!! And as for the arse hole who said band aid hasn’t changed anything?!?!? You clearly haven’t done your research ok not cured the problems but helped so many people!! I suggest u all take a good look at your own selfish lives! And see the good in people trying to make a differnce to those less fortunate then ourselves!!! ask your self one question How would u feel if it was your children or relatives at risk of being kidnapped and abused by this evil man!!! Didn’t think there was such selfish people in the world!! Typical Americans!!!!!!

fuck these vigilante campaigns that only reinforce the racial stereotype of a helpless africa and the US military as the world’s saviour. this campaign lost me at military intervention… how short are your memories? do the likes of vietnam, afghanistan, iraq wars escape you? calling for imperialistic US troop backed intervention is NOT the solution! be critical and don’t buy into the propaganda there are plenty of friendly grassroots non invasive productive initiatives that exist, that don’t get the publicity they deserve because they don’t spend the bulk of their donations on camera work and ‘bi-partisan’ logos. anyway my problem with this campaign is their proposed solution and also how simplified the apparent ‘problem’ is. like slavery, apartheid, african politics played absolutely no role, the only one bad guy is kony lets attribute the burden of all economic, environmental, political problems to this one single man. and its unsettling that people guns blazing can suddenly decide to focus so much energy into hating one man based on one video. education is the key. peace out from oz.

No. You can’t save/fix Africa. It’s pretty damn complex. For some…do you even ‘genuinely’ care about KONY 2012? Seriously, you’ll forget it like how you forgot ‘Linsanity’or whatever the fuck Kanye West did lately. BTW, Kony is only one of hundreds of warlords and his shit has been around since 1986. And now people are only finding out about it because of some stupid viral video? If you truly do want to ‘genuinely’ care about fixing this damn world…start by actually volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club, donate to PBS, help in soup kitchens, or join Peace Corps. Damn it..get off your asses and go build houses in El Salvador. It’s a lot damn easier than trying to topple a warlord and you will make a great & positive impact faster than a blink of an eye. Unless stepping out your door & making a difference is waaaaay TOO HARD compared to easily reposting a fucking video (that you will only care for 1 1/2 days)and ‘Liking’ a status on Facebook.

Okay…for those who think Americans don’t want to help Africans because they are “Africans”…what do you want us to do? Send in Navy Seals to take out hundreds & maybe thousands of warlords throughout Africa. Oh, and once we take out one…another pops up to replace the original? Better yet, shall we bring in American troops to “liberate” and bring “democracy” to these people? And if we do send in “Coalition” forces…who are we going to encounter? DERANGED & BRAINWASHED 10-15 year olds who will ultimately be killed by US or “Coalition” forces. The situation in Africa is extremely complex and it is not simple as “lets defeat the bad guy and everything will be flowers & sunshine” like in Star Wars. Get real.

Number 1. LOVE THE LANGUAGE.

Number 2. The reactions to Obama’s recent statement underscore how little Americans — journalists included — know about the United States’ involvement in Uganda. In the rush to say something, newspapers and television shows seem to have largely based their material on the somewhat confused Wikipedia entry on the LRA. Once initial inquiries along the lines of “Who are the LRA?” and “What do they want?” are out the way, the most common questions are “Why intervene now?” and “What is in it for the United States?”

Obama claimed that he decided to act because it “furthers U.S. national security interests and foreign policy.” Yet it is not entirely clear how that could be true, since Kony and the LRA have not targeted Americans or American interests and are not capable of overthrowing an allied government. In addition, geologists recently discovered oil in and around Lake Albert — another reason for closer cooperation and for stabilizing the area.

The violence in Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan has been the most devastating — anywhere in the world — since the mid-1990s. Even conservative estimates place the death toll in the millions. And the LRA is, in fact, a relatively small player in all of this — as much a symptom as a cause of the endemic violence. If Kony is removed, LRA fighters will join other groups or act independently.

These are so unlike the comments normally left by IIIE readers. This is a bit creepy. Do invisible children have a team of people paid to scour the internet for articles discussing their video so that they can generate interest by leaving lots of comments?

I am trying to have as much of an open mind on this issue as possible. To be honest, i’m one of those internet users that mainly uses internet to find information I need or want, this has advantages and disadvantages: I dont get carried away by anything viral or basically waste time I could be using on learning and reading, However I am sometimes out of touch with things happening around me, which is not always good.

Enough about me….I only found out about this Kony 2012 thing a few days ago and reading a bit on the opinions of people for and against the group that has made this viral video.

From what I have concluded, is that the Kony 2012 video has positive and negative affects on the viewers.
The positive: It has made many people interested in african politics/wars, in terms of politics, history, tribalism….I’m not sure but I have a feeling hundreds of thousands have Googled or Wikipedied Uganda, Rawanda, massacres, child soldiers etc, etc….This especially goes for the more educated people who want to know and find out more about the background story. So in general: An awareness or focus on this particular topic.

The negative: Basically a highly simplistic and idealistic view of how to deal with a criminal war lord….Military intervention, supporting a corrupt criminal government…etc.
The issue here is that the video fuels the emotion of people..This can be a good thing to bring attention to an issue or the war torn countries. But if these people are not so educated and are guided blindly by their emotions, they will start demanding whatever you convene to them in the video….If these demands are actually met or have influence is another issue.

In the end ask your self..If this video would not have existed would it be better or worse. The fact that we are talking about these issues and discussing the matter, and spending time and energy…Is it good or a bad thing?

Do the positives out way the negatives…regardless of what the makers of the video had in mind?

Tiara, the smoking a joint is a good idea if some great ideas are brainstormed to stop this Kony bullshit; Who really believes these guys anyways?! He’s a putz (Jason Russell) trying to become famous out of poor people’s misery. Created a video that looks like shit. You couldn’t possibly work toward human rights when 1) you look and make complete fool of yourself publicly (arrested for acting like a complete douchebag in plain daylight), 2) an idiot Exec, Jedidiah Jenkins Joked About Keeping $900k Donation for Himself.. Really?!?! Are these the kind of people we want to give our money to?!? For what?! …. Humans nowadays and for a long time really have been pathetic. Even more pathetic are the little ducks that believe them, including and not limited to the stupid and useless celebrities this country is filled with. If people REALLY wanted to do something about it they would ALL work together towards the cause NOT donate their hard working money to some strangers they met on Youtube. Oh the idiotically society one must put up with. Want to take down a man… There’s plenty of other humans who hate him. Why no just cut off his head and sell it to the Chinese?! .. They seem to appreciate key chains with live creatures in it. Except this one would be a REAL trophy to humanity.

Kony Balogna 2012

skip to the bottom for my overview, the first part is the bullshit.

Today i witnessed my entire school get brainwashed into joining the Kony bullshit. They made us watch a propaganda film on how these 3 people (a man who got slammed and got naked, “wankin’ his chain” across the city, a female who was being a real bitch, and a Ugandan man who said he was not a soldier but saw his friend get his leg cut off when he was trying to escape) spent millions of dollar on transporting their bullshit to every High School so they can show them “Kony-2012″ the 12th (…. thats 12 films they produced each costing over a million to produce each one becoming more brainwashing then the next) which had the main idea of “we need to spread the awareness of Kony”.
They said if you get all your friends and their wallets to participate you’ll get a free shirt.
They said they give ALL that money right to the Ugandan military and to the building of schools (because that’s how you stop wars….?) even though the military does everything kony does, just not with child soldiers; looting, raping, and sexual slavery. Even though they just admitted to spending all this money on the production of this message.
They got all of our idols and celebrities to join the cause knowing impressionable american teens will follow the fad.
They said they like to dance to dubstep, knowing that the media is all about it and that teens love it, and that they will have a party when he is dead and EVERYONE is invited.
They said they had 100,000+ child soldiers when they only have 250 CHILD soldiers, the other 500 are men. In 2011 kony was #9 on the most wanted, in one year these dumbasses moved him to #1, Kony got less aggressive but got more infamous (if you think about it this man is nothing but the common terrorist, and these 3 people are forcing this mans terror into us by the millions every day…… the 3 people in charge are more like terrorist than Kony, he at least kept it to himself for 26 years).
They said they are dignified to get audited when they refuse to get all assets audited at the same time, allowing them to shift around their piles into their pockets.
They think that they will go up to a man who has kids with their chests mutilated and cut open, so they can pack drugs into it so they feel to pain, who has kids who just killed their friends and Kony commands, or they are killed. This mean when you get close there will be a mob of children gunning you down…. what are they going to do besides kill those kids to get to Kony. He knows we wont kill kids and we wont, he knows that he can send as many kids as he wants as pawns so they die, not him. The man has an effective system and there is no way we can “arrest” this man without KILLING these children. (and of all the things we could try to do to him, “arresting” him sounds litteraly retarded. lets arrest a man who brutally abuses children and kills people by the tribe-full and not kill him when we will most definitely be shooting to kill.)

They made 400+ kids open their wallets to an organization that most kids never hear of before that exploits the child soldiers, so you feel “sad”, like his poor 5 year old son had to say, and told them to get all their friends to open their wallets too, so that they can spend your money to make more films and spend your money on their transportation, so that they can give a shitty amount of money to the slightly less unethical military so they can kill the kids and then eventually kill Kony, so that they can give an even shittier amount of money to make 1 school.

It sickens me to see just how nieve and stubborn they made my piers look.
FUCK KONY 2012, give you charity thats a charity not a shady organization.
