Mike Berlin: The Partisan Coffee House of 1958

Back in 1958, radical young historian Raphael Samuel set up the Partisan Coffee House. In the aftermath of Suez, and the Soviet Invasion of Hungary, it served as an important, if short lived, hub for what became the New Left – and the site of many heated debates.
Firebox – a soon to be launched cafe and events space – aims to be the Partisan Coffee House of the 21st century. On Thursday it will host a discussion with Historian Mike Berlin on the Coffee House and the political context in which int emerged, as well as an exhibition of original archival material, including the brilliant panorama documentary and BBC radio programs that were made about the place.
Definitely recommend checking it out.
